When I was about 10 years old I lived in Texas,  my dad had went to Ohio to work. When he left, he left me $13.00.
So I took that money and bought a knife, a small dagger with a leather sheath.
I was really proud of that knife, and shined the handle with of all things lemon pledge. I shined it, and shined it. That
knife didn't leave my side. One day, I happened to be at my uncles house with my knife. Of course I was shining that
handle. Well you know how things go
.
I was in the living room practicing pulling the knife in and out of the sheath. At the same time my brother (who was
about six years old) was standing watching TV. I was still practicing with my knife, and I again pulled it out of the
sheath. It slipped out of my hand, from all that damn pledge. I watched it tumble through the air, and stick right in the
side of my brothers head, close to the temple. Needless to say blood started squirting everywhere .Well to make a
long story short, my brother got one stitch. I got left with my uncle who thought it would be funny to make me think
I had killed my brother. He also gave me the prison name “Dagger”. Because  he told me I was going  to prison
shortly. I also ended up losing my knife.

Thats my fondest memory of knives when I was young. Ever since then I have been interested in knives of all kind. I
have received a lot of help Herb Derr, and Harvey Holbroook, and from the members at Bladeforums.com. The knife
makers there always go out of there way to help you with any problems you may encounter
In my knives I use mostly Carbon steel 5160, O1 tool steel or 1095. I love carbon steels because they hold a good
edge and you can do so much with the blades from Hot Bluing, to etching, ect. I also prefer natural materials to man
made ones. My favorite knives are mainly bare bone hunting knives. I want to make knives that look good,  but
someone is not afraid to use on a daily basis.
My name is Wil Hurley. I live in Sciotoville, Ohio. I am 29 years old. I am a nurse,
before that I was a Medical laboratory technician. I’ve been making knives for about 3
years off and on. Recently I have decided to devote a lot more time to make knives.
I have always loved knives from a young age. However I'm not going to tell you the
same story I hear many people tell. The story about someone giving them a knife, and
since then they have loved knives. I don’t have that kind of story, mine is a little more
dramatic.
